Grandma just took her HAIR right off her HEAD

My Mother is usually in her wig or one of her turbans i had for her. She loves the one with all the breast cancer logo's and saying on it. So this normally how Christopher seen her everyday too.

In this picture Christopher wanted to put a bandanna on like my mom. They were looking in the mirror, and Chris was laughing that he looked like his grandma.

Thanks mom for letting me take at least 2 pictures with just your naked head.

Ok so the funny story. Me and Jaime wanted to get out of the house one night that we were all staying with my mom. My told me she was sorry, that she was not thinking about how Christopher would react, but she came out of the bathroom and at the same time took off her wig. She said Christopher's eyes got really big as she walked into the room to put her wig on the manikin head. Christopher got off the couch looked at my mom and then at the wig. He was like were is your hair, it just came right off. LOL Then the last night we were there, me and Chris slept in bed with my mom. Right before we went to sleep, he looked over at my mom. She was bald. He said grandma's hair and rubbed her head.. needless to say i wanted to cry. My mom will have her 3rd chemo treatment in 1 week. The Dr's told my mom she would not lose her hair until after the 2nd one. But she lost it 3 days after the 1st. We love her just as much with or with out hair. She is still beautiful.

A Little More Upbeat

Ok so enough with all the sad blogs.... Starting in October, i will be posting fun things.....

Chemo Hats

Hello, just wanted to share some chemo hats that i made for my mother. I hope she does not read this before they get to her. But if she does: i hope that you like them and wear them a lot, i remember hats are hard to make... But anyways, McCalls #4116 has a really good pattern with 8 different hats. Simplicity#8699 had some great one too, but overall i like the McCalls one before. I just felt my mother would wear more of those style hats. So like a said hats are harder than one thinks until they start making. Im sure i got better as the hats went on..
Black one, was the 1st one i made. i messed up alittle, but still came out great.
Really liked this material, it is silky and my mother wears alot of red.

The material was awesome. Black with little pink flowers embroider all over. i did the band around the head in solid black and the rest with the pink flowers.
This material was my favorite, it was a Breast Cancer Fabric, with pink ribbons, and saying on it. "hope, strength, love, live, laugh, faith,...

The Shawna Kilbert Project: Women Helping Women Fight Cervical Center...

The Shawna Kilbert Project Family Fun Walk/Run
I feel very blessed that i was invited to participate in this wonderful event. Thanks to 2 moms that are on the committee Christie & Tracie; The community of people that have come together to help this project is amazing. So many people have been touched by this story, and so many that know her and did not know her, came to show there support for the community. I was able to walk with Christopher and volunteer an hour helping out in the Cotton Candy and Kettle Corn Booth. I wished i would have taken some more pictures, but i forgot i has my camera, and i was way to busy chasing Christopher around to snap anymore. But I'm sure they will have some up on their site, at some point. I know i emailed some of my girl friends, my mother, and my mother in law, but I'm really trying to help more in the community with women. i know everyday someone loses someone close to them. And since my mother has been diagnosed with breast cancer, i realize that every dollar adds up. signing me and Christopher up is just a small % of what people need, but every dollar counts. I have learned that from H.O.W project. So i hope that our $40, will give someone a chance to live....and give family members and friends a chance to save a mother, grandmother, girlfriend, wife, sister, or someone they care about. check out her project at http://www.theshawnakilbertproject.org/

Oncotype DX test

So since my moms last surgery on August 6th we have been waiting patiently on test results to come in.... During that 2nd surgery my mother has 21 more lymph nodes take out. We found out that none of the lymph that were taken out that day had cancer. But it was the lymph node in her first surgery that were a concern. Since they took out so many lymph nodes, it is my understanding that she could get Lymphoma, since her breast cancer spread to her lymph nodes.
Shortly after surgery she started seeing a therapist that See's patients with lymphoma or that has had breast cancer and had a lot of lymph nodes taken out. For the past 2 weeks my mother has has 16oz of fluid drained from her left side were the lymph nodes were taken out. She still can not feel her arm pit, but soon we are hoping that she regains her sensations and feeling.
A few days after surgery they sent off lymph nodes for testing "Oncotype DX test"
Oncotype DX is a diagnostic test that assesses the tumor tissue and estimates the likelihood that invasive breast cancer will return, or recur after treatment. By analyzing the expression pattern of certain genes in breast tumors, the Oncotype DX test can more precisely estimate a woman's risk of cancer recurrence when compared with the standard assessments doctors normally use to evaluate the risk of cancer returning. The Recurrence Score is then categorized into one of three groups: low, intermediate, or high risk. For example, if a tumor has a Recurrence Score over 31, a high-risk score, this means there's a greater chance that the breast cancer will return. If a tumor gets a Recurrence Score of 18 or less, a low-risk score, this signals a lower chance that the breast cancer will return.
Using the Recurrence Score as a measure of risk, researchers now acknowledge a correlation between the score and the type of cancer treatment that is required. For example, with a low Recurrence Score, hormone therapy alone may successfully treat the woman's cancer. Alternately, a high Recurrence Score indicates a greater chance of the breast cancer returning, so the patient may benefit from adjuvant systemic therapy, including chemotherapy.

My mother score was a 21, this means she will need to do chemotherapy. She meets with the chemo doctor next week. The appointment will determined start date, chemo cocktail, and length of treatment. After chemo, she will then do radiation. And during this whole process she will also be doing hormone therapy. my mother will find out this Friday, what type of therapy she will be doing and how long. i will keep everyone updated...

The Beach

Monterey, Ca

This summer Christopher & I met Grandma and Grandpa Ramirez in Monterey for the night. I thought the weather was going to be a lot warmer, so i told them we would met them down at the beach, where the Best Western is.
It was chilly out, but Chris enjoyed when i took him down to the water in my arms. He did enjoy being at the beach, and liked when the water hit his feet, but was not super crazy about going in him self. I think he would have liked it a lot more if it was warmer.
